Oh Darn

Just got the blood work results for my next Doctor appointment. Not as good as I'd hoped for. Not only is the CK count up 60 more points (to 777) but about 4 or 5 out of the other 12 tests are off normal - usually there just one off somewhere. I'm not feeling bad and have even had some good days where I could do some stuff so I don't get it.

surprise

It's down right cold today. Some sprinkles too. Doing the laundry, sitting at the computer checking out stuff when there is an explosion. Sounds like it's in the back of the house. I get up look in every room. Go out back and look all over, come back in the house and search every room again. Can't find anything but it definately was an explosion. So I work on the laundry some more and the computer some more then go to get something to drink. There it is - the explosion (and now a mess to clean up) a can of 7-up on the top shelf, in the back, of the refrigator had turned to ice and exploded inside the refrigator. Wow what a loud noise it had made. Hope the rest of my day is quiet!

ants

I hate ants!!!! There is never just one and this year they are relentless. First one room then the next and just when I think they are under control I find them in another room. Terry has sprayed around the house more than once but I think they have a colony under the house now. A friend said to throw a fog bomb of ant killer under the house. Does this sound safe? Does this sound like it will work?? Any suggestions??

Way tooooooo Hot

I had to stay home today cause the phone guy was coming. We've had real bad crackling on the line, so much that you can't hear the other person. So I hope they can fix it, we've had this problem before. Anyway, we only have an air conditioner in the master bedroom and it has been on all day. I couldn't go back there because then I couldn't hear if the phone guy came so I sat in the 102 -104 degree living room, but as soon as he left at 2:00 I headed for the bedroom and an hour later I felt like a human being again. Now what to make for dinner? there is no way I am turning on that stove. Hope your day was cooler.

trip

Getting ready for a nice visit to see the kids & grandkids. I usually take along something for everyone (my husband says "It will never all fit in the car!", but it always does.) But this time I have nothing, I haven't been able to get out to the stores and I haven't had the energy to put together some of their belongings that are still here and are slowly being moved out. It feels really weird not having a fully packed car.

Can your rock blossom?

I had a fairy sitting on top of a rock catsus (looks like a rock but it's a plant) in one of my flower box gardens and he kept falling off. I finally noticed a bump coming up between a slit in the rock. Up grew a beautiful orange and yellow flower. so if you have a rock catsus, yes your rock can blossom. How cool is that?

Anniversary

Today is Terry's and my 42nd wedding anniversary. Amazing how fast life goes. We have had a very interesting life together. He has been so wonderful especially during the last two years with my illness, always there for me and trying to make my day easier. I could never have asked for a better husband. I love you Terry.

We did take a break today and went to a bakery that is on TV. the bakery is called Beverly's Best, in Fullerton, the show is called Bakery Bunch. We each got a yummy something. Tomorrow's break will be the beach. I won't go cause I can't be out in the sun for very long but they will have a great time I am sure.

vent

I know not many people read my blog so I may just use this today as a vent. A friend of mind got laid off about a month ago. She wrote on her facebook she was reading a lot more and taking a resume and networking class. Someone, I don't know, but I think my friend does wrote somethings and then added - You know, the Lord takes special care of special people. This has really upset me for some reason. I know there are hundreds of thousands of people out of work for very long periods of time and people get sick for maybe the rest of their lives and now we have to be on a special list of special people to get special care??? I never thought God played favorites but maybe she is right. Life sure seems out of wack to me so maybe things have changed and now the only people to get good things happen to them have to be special people on a special list somewhere.

breathing

Friday the doctor said I have a lung infection and they have put me on antibiotics. I feel a little better today. Everyone was afraid to give me any new medication and I think even Terry was holding his breath hoping I would have another bad reaction. Hope someday I will get back to normal.

second fairy flowerbox

It's not quite done but still cute. I love the mushroom house. I made a path with Irish Moss and a small creek with blue glass beads. I plan to get a little bridge to go over the creek but have not found the right one yet. I also want to find a small vine like chair. I think the boy fairy sitting on the rock catsus is funny and I used the communion cup made of olive wood that I got in Jerusalem for a little bird bath. What do you think?

Dinner

I just made individual salmon loafs for dinner. I probably haven't made them in 2-3 years and my husband was pesting for them all weekend. I wasn't feeling good enough to make them this weekend but today I feel much better. I also made oatmeal raisin cookies.

restate

Let me restate what I said, after paul took a bite of the Mexican chili chocolate cupcake (which he couldn't eat) he ate the chocolate raspberry cupcake.

crazy cupcakes

I was excited to try our cupcakes and I usually enjoy different flavors of things. Laurie had the german chocolate one, I ate the cherry chocolate chip and paul tried the Mexican chili one which he took one bite of and said "Mom don't try this!!" It was very very very spicy and weird tasting and he couldn't eat it, luckly I had the chocolate raspberry one and it was very good. Andi when you are down we may have to make a trip to the cupcake store, although they didn't have as many cupcakes as I expected. They also had cakes, and lots of cookies.

books & cupcakes

Went to the used book store this afternoon to get a copy of Pride and Prejudice for the reading group, I love that place. Moriah, I found a new author you may like - Kristiana Gregory. She has written several series and also some books about people like Cleopatra and others only she has the stories when they were ages 12-15. sounded interesting to me. Mammy had bought one of her stories about an orphan and I was looking for the second in the series, unfortunately they didn't have any of her books right now. Then we went to the cupcake store (voted best cupcakes in Orange county for 17 years in a row). I had never been there before and it was really hard to find. I got a German Chocolate, a raspberry chocolate, a cherry chocolate chip and a Mexican Chili chocolate. Yea, I was craving chocolate. Good thing Paul and Laurie will be here to help me eat them.

fairy garden

Since I can't do much gardening anymore, and I really miss it, I thought I'd try a fairy garden in my flowerboxes on the front porch. The following are pictures of my first try. The walkway is made of sea shells the grandkids got a couple of months ago at the beach. The water is blue glass beads and the plants are little star flower ground cover and several different catsus (ones with out the prickly things). The fairies and the house I got from a catalog. I got several other houses but they may be too big for the flowerboxes. What do you think - cute?

flowerbox

I've been toying with the idea of making a fairy garden but keep thinking it will get ruined if we have a hard rain. So I might try one in one of my flowerboxes. I bought a fairy village awhile back and have been anxious to put it up. Hopefully pictures will follow soon.

old

My 90 year old mother has decided to clean out some of her closets. We have been talking about this for years. Yesterday she showed me 5 little outfits she kept from when I was a little girl. They are cute and after she shows them to my sister she will give them to me and I'll take a picture or two.

California Lily

This is the lily I told you about, Andi. It has lily leaves and a stock come up with a pinecone shaped top, then little star flowers star to blossom all around it until it's a ball shape of star flowers. Of course I got the pictures backwards so start at the bottom and see how it blossoms.

iris

Aren't they pretty?

White Iris

The white iris are pretty this year but didn't last long.

kind of strange

I started reading "Jane Eyer" by Charlotte Bronte today for the book group Paul runs. I have never read it before, although it seems it should have been required reading sometime in my life, anyway reading about her life of Charlotte Bronte it strikes me as very strange that I start reading her book on the exact 155th year to date of her death!

taxes

Waiting for Terry to get home to go get our taxes done. I have been sorting and adding things together for a week so the figures are now ready for someone to look at. But I'm much rather look at the peaches that are coming along quite nicely.

fierce cat

This is from a post Moriah did and the picture of bugsy eating bear meat.

I am trying to learn how to post pictures - let's see if I can get it right!

I tried to do 4 pictures at one time but that didn't work so here is the "big cake" picture.

back to the same old thing

I am feeling quite good today for a change and I like it. Doing laundry and getting caught up on the bills, newspapers, and blogs, which I didn't look at for a week. Miss the kids already. Did find one lone sock and one pair of 3D glasses, oh, and the blackboard you wanted, Andi is still in the garage. I don't know how you would have gotten it in the car but we will bring it up when we come next time, I hope in April but don't hold your breath. I have to bug Terry to show me again how to get my pictures on the blog, I just can't seem to remember.

all gone

I haven't posted in awhile, not that I post very often, but my oldest son, his wife and the grandkids were here all week and now they have gone home. It's very different with 7 extra people in the house but I loved having them here. We had lots of fun, food and shopping. Saw the new Alice in Wonderland movie, they went to the beach, we shopped two different days - one day for 4 hours and the other for about 3 1/2 hours. We went minature golfing - I sat in the wheelchair and watched and took pictures. I hope to get some pictures up this week. And of course we went to the used book store. Now the house is very quiet and I miss them already!

The lights went out

We've had beautiful weather lately (in the low 80's) no rain, sleet, snow, not even any big winds, yet yesterday at 3:30 the lights went out! The power was off all around us. The power stayed off for 11 hours. we went out to eat but missed the Olympics, did get some reading done though by one of those lights on a headband that Terry had out in his truck. I've been away from places that the electric goes out often so I now need to remind myself to stock up on candles again. Don't know if Bugsy, the cat, liked it or not but she just wanted to sit on my lap all night.

birds

Terry took me to the wild bird sanctuary today for Valentines Day. I haven't been out of the house for a long time except to do some shopping so it was really nice. I did have to use the wheelchair (which I haven't used in many months) because there was just too much walking for me. It was so much fun to see the different birds, squirrels, turtles. The hummingbirds had a ball playing in the trees and chasing each other. They would fly right by your head or sit in the tree on a branch so close you could almost touch them. Unfortuantly I didn't have my camera with us, it would have been fun to get a close up of the hummingbirds. Hope everyone had a nice Valentines Day.

plant

It's been raining at least 3 day straight, every week, in the last 4 weeks so the ground is really soaked and thankfully soft enough for me to take my little hand shovel and make some hole for bulbs. It has been several years since I've been physically able to plant and I really miss my garden. There is nothing like home grown corn, red beets, green beans, etc.

Bye Bye Thoreau

I finally finished Walden (for our reading group) and I never have to go there again. Hurray!! Although I though Thoreau's Life in the Woods was a lot of dribble I was surprised at agreeing with him on the "On the Duty of Civil Disobedience" which was at the end of my book but I'm not sure it's at the end of all the Pond books. Anyway I have been reading "Going Rogue" (the Sarah Palin book the Terry got me for my birthday) at the same time as I was reading Walden. I think they may agree with each other on government, only she say what she means in one paragraph and he takes 30 pages and doesn't stay on the subject. Looking forward to the next book.

Drat

I was trying to make dinner and the electric can opener broke, AH you say use the old hand held opener, well that would work if I was one of those people who's hands worked but here I sit with cans to open and now having to wait for the husband to show up from work.

pruning

I think this is the week for pruning around here. Got the peach tree done, thanks to my neighbor Jerry and Terry did the 6 rose bushes today. The pond pump stopped working so we went in search of a new one and now the pond is looking good again. Boingo caught a giant lizard and ate about half of it. I bet that was a battle to see.
